 Music at Rountree

" I am happy to return to the Rountree family, after being away for almost nine years."

Music at Rountree Elementary School is designed to equip the students with the skills necessary for musical understanding and enjoyment. Through active participation in the music making process, the students learn to:

· Read and notate music

· Listen to, analyze and describe music

· Sing and perform a varied repertoire of music

· Improvise melodies and variations

· Compose and arrange music within specified guidelines

· Understand music in relation to history, culture and the other arts

· Evaluate music and music performances

Students attend music classes 45 minutes each week.
Classes offer a variety of activities, all designed to foster an appreciation of music and develop musical skills.  We sing, dance, play a variety of instruments, and learn to read music.  Small percussion, recorders (4th and 5th grades), and Orff melody instruments (xylophones and glockenspiels) are played in ensemble in a non-competitive atmosphere where one of the rewards is the pleasure of making good music with others. 6th graders are offered a choice of Choir, Band or Orchestra, which they attend two times each week. Performance opportunities are available to all students at Rountree Elementary School to feature the musical talents of the students and showcase the learning that takes place in the music classroom.

Mr. Dawson is the music specialist at Rountree Elementary. He brings fifteen years of experience in the music classroom.
