| Welcome to the Chandler Elementary Computer lab. My name is Vivian Bridges. I am a graduate of Jackson State University where I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. I have been Chandler’s Computer Technology Specialist since the doors opened in 2006. This position has afforded me the opportunity to bring together two things that are near and dear to my heart – computers and children. This year, kindergarten through fifth grade will rotate through the computer lab four weeks out of each nine week period. During those four weeks, I will teach and facilitate the lesson. Also, regular classroom teachers will often sign up for lab time so that students can work on various classroom assignments and projects. Two weeks of the four weeks of rotation, we will focus solely on keyboarding. It is important that students adopt proper keyboarding techniques, including correct posture, correct arm and hand position, and correct key stroking technique. Once students know how to type, they will be able to fully focus on the application they are working in and the actual assignment they are working on without having to search for the correct key to press. Technology is being infused into every aspect of our lives, school included. This is why we must prepare our children for a technology rich future. My goal is to teach students how to effectively integrate the technology available to them and as a result, boost student’s confidence as they become more technologically literate. My husband Byron and I have three children. Bryce was in the Allen High School graduating class of 2010, Brooke is in tenth grade at Allen High School and Brianna is in seventh grade at Ford Middle School. In my free time, I take pleasure in tinkering around with old computers, reading and sewing. I look forward to working with your children this year as we grow and learn in technology. |
