Español 1 Course Overview

Course Overview

Spanish 1 is an introduction to the Spanish language and the cultures that utilize the language. The course is designed to create a base of usable vocabulary. Introductory reading and writing of the language will reinforce the principles of correct Spanish grammar. Classroom participation is essential for success in this course. Students are required to participate in verbal practices as a group as well as individually. The course follows the ¡Exprésate! The course is designed to prepare the student to continue into Spanish 2 the following school year.

Course Objectives

The foreign language learning process is based on communication. This is the major objective of our program. The goal is to develop individuals with “international competence” e.g., people who can communicate accurately with individuals of other languages and cultures; understand themselves as individuals shaped by a given language, and exhibit sensitivity to cultural differences in general.

Tardy Policy

Students should be in their seats, working in the task assigned when the bell rings to indicate the start of class. If for some reason students are tardy, they are expected to sign in at their appropriate house and enter to class with a tardy slip.
