Anderson students have an opportunity to be involved in a variety of clubs and activities.
Allen ISD Honor Choir
The Allen District Honor Choir is a select choir of 5th and 6th grade students from the Allen Public Schools. Auditions are held in early October for placement in the choir. This select group of students performs two concerts during the year, one in January and a combined holiday concert in December with the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra.
Chess Club
Chess Club welcomes all students in grades 3-6, who either want to learn how to play chess, or have been playing chess for years. Chess Club meets approximately once a month during the school year and students may choose to also participate in a tournament that runs throughout the year. Chess Club is sponsored by Mrs. Decker, Mrs. Barr, and Mrs. Smith. Please see the Chess Club web page for additional information and a list of meeting dates.
Peer Mediation
This organization is made up of twelve 5th and 6th grade students who went through an application and interview process with the Allen High School PALs last spring. Once selected, Peer Mediators attended a full day course on how to be a Peer Mediator. Peer Mediation is a program where students help students resolve disputes in a peaceful manner. Peer Mediation is a service open to all Anderson students. Referrals to mediation can be made by students, school staff, and parents. If you would like more information about Peer Mediation, you can visit Mrs McWilliams webpage or the program's website: http://www.paxunited.org/
K-Kids
K-Kids is a service minded organization that works in conjunction with our Allen Kiwanis adult organization. K-Kids is open to all Anderson students grades K-6. They meet approximately twice a month on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00-3:45. This is a great opportunity to learn about serving others and help lead other Anderson students in service projects and fund raising for various charity organizations. The K-Kids sponsor is Charlotte Catlett and the faculty advisor is Kathy Spann. If you have any questions. please see Kathy Spann.
Pride Council
Pride Council is Anderson's student government organization. Pride Council consists of elected representatives from grades 4,5 and 6. These elections are held in the fall semester and these representatives hold their office for the remainder of the school year. Pride Council meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday afternoon of the month from 3:00-3:45. Pride Council members share information concerning upcoming events with buddy classrooms in the younger grades. Pride Council coordinates many fund raisers throughout the year and helps with service projects that Anderson chooses to support. Pride Council also serves as hosts and hostesses for events such as open house, VIP day and PTA meetings. The Pride Council sponsors are Kathy Spann. Jennifer Loos, and Beth Miller.
Safety Patrol
Safety Patrol is open to all 5th graders in the Fall. Safety Patrol's purpose is to keep students, parents, and faculty safe while entering and exiting the building. Students help with opening/closing doors to the building and unloading/loading cars during drop-off and dismissal. Members are broken up into two teams that work in a four week rotation. Times, rotations, and positions are listed outside the door leading to teacher boxes. If you will be a 5th grader next year and are interested in participating in Safety Patrol, be looking for an application within the first few weeks of school. For further information, you can visit my Mrs McWilliams webpage.
