Obado Named AISD Director of Bands

The Allen ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Dr. Philip A. Obado as the new director of bands for Allen High School at Monday night’s regular meeting.

Dr. Obado comes to Allen from Baylor University where he has served as Assistant Director of Bands. While at Baylor, his responsibilities included Associate Director of the Golden Wave Band, Director of the Courtside Players, conducting the Concert Band and teaching courses in conducting.

“I am honored to be the next Director of Bands at Allen High School,” Dr. Obado said. “Bands at Allen have represented the school and community with excellence at local, state, and national levels. I am excited about being a part of this community and looking forward to seeing what the future unfolds.”

Before joining the Baylor staff, he was Associate Director of Bands at Illinois State University where he was the director of the Big Red Marching Machine, conducted the Symphonic Winds and Symphonic Band and taught courses in conducting and marching band techniques. He also taught for twelve years in Florida public schools including directing bands at East River High School and University High School in Orlando and South Fork High School in Stuart.

A Florida native, Dr. Obado received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in wind conducting from Michigan State University, a Master of Music Education degree from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Music in Education and Performance from Ithaca College.

As Director of Bands in Allen, Obado will head the Allen Eagle Escadrille and also the school’s extensive concert band program.  The selection process included administration and staff interviews as well as student input.

"Dr. Obado will be an excellent addition to our program with both collegiate and high school experience," said Jeff Turner, Allen ISD fine arts director. "He has also earned degrees from three of the nation's top music schools."

Obado will join the Allen High School staff on May 15.
