Notice Of Nondiscrimination

Allen ISD believes in providing accessible web content for all individuals. Currently, the district is taking steps to update our Web content to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as proposed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). The school system’s goal is to provide Web content that achieves AA conformance as prescribed by the W3C, while also complying with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

If you have a disability and the format of any content on our Web pages interferes with your ability to access the information, please contact the Public Information Department, 972-727-0510 or email to webmaster@allenisd.org. Grievances also may be filed with the district by contacting the Public Information Department.

Web Accessibility Guidelines And Information

Allen ISD is committed to providing a website that is accessible to all regardless of abilities.

The district is required by law to meet web development standards. Specifically, the district must be in compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended in 1998 (29 U.S.C. § 794 (d)).

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) were created to help website managers meet accessibility standards. WGAC 2.0 includes guidelines and testing criteria to determine levels of compliance:

WCAG 2.0 Guidelines

1)    Perceivable

  1. Provide text alternatives for any non-text content so that it can be changed into other forms people need, such as large print, braille, speech, symbols or simpler language.

  2. Provide alternatives for time-based media.

  3. Create content that can be presented in different ways (for example simpler layout) without losing information or structure.

  4. Make it easier for users to see and hear content including separating foreground from background.

 2)    Operable

  1. Make all functionality available from a keyboard.

  2. Provide users enough time to read and use content.

  3. Do not design content in a way that is known to cause seizures.

  4. Provide ways to help users navigate, find content, and determine where they are.

3)    Understandable

  1. Make text content readable and understandable.

  2. Make Web pages appear and operate in predictable ways.

  3. Help users avoid and correct mistakes.

4)    Robust

  1. Maximize compatibility with current and future user agents, including assistive technologies.

There are three compliance levels in WGAC 2.0: A, AA and AAA. Level A includes the most basic web accessibility standards. Level AA includes the most common barriers to accessibility. Level AAA indicates full compliance with all WGAC standards. Level AAA is not required because not all content may be able to satisfy compliance with its criteria.

Allen ISD has contracted with a website vendor, Blackboard, to scan the website and provide regular reports on compliance by level through an accessibility tool called Ally. All district web content editors have access to the Ally dashboard and compliance tools and can review their web pages for level AA compliance.

An introduction to web accessibility is available at https://webaim.org/intro. For more information on getting started with web accessibility, visit www.w3.org/WAI/gettingstarted. Details of WCAG 2.0 are available at https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/.

Feedback, questions and concerns about website accessibility are encouraged and should be submitted to webmaster@allenisd.org.

Parents, students, members of the public and employees may file a formal grievance under Section 504 and Title II related to the accessibility of the District website in accordance with District Policy DGBA (LOCAL), District Policy FNG (LOCAL) and District Policy GF (LOCAL).
