Attendance Matters -- Attendance FAQ

What to do if my student is absent?

When your student is absent, we need important information for our records.  What needs to be included in a “absent” note?

  • The child’s first and last name

  • Date(s) the student was absent

  • The reason why they were absent

  • If the student has a doctor’s appointment, ALWAYS, request a doctor’s note from the doctor’s office before you leave.

TWO (2) options to submit absences

Option 1 and Preferred Method: Submit absence through Skyward. See graphic below for step-by-step instructions.

NOTE: you are not able to submit or upload doctor’s notes in Skyward, please email them to irene.gaona@allenisd.org or evelyn.gasca@allenisd.org

  1. Click on My Account in the top right-hand corner.

  2. Click on the Attendance tab on the left menu bar.

  3. Select Absence Requests.

If this absence was for a doctor's appointment and your student was in attendance for part of the day, then please submit a doctor's note directly to the school office.

Option 2: Student may bring a note from home within three (3) days of their return to school. If a note is not turned in within the three-day window, absences will be counted as unexcused.

Important Reminders

  • Absences because of travel are not excused absences, they are counted as unexcused absences

  • If a student is absent for illness for five (5) or more consecutive days, a doctor’s note must be provided for those days to be excused.

  • When students come in late to school or check out early due to a dentist or doctor's appointment, please turn in the doctor’s note to excuse the partial-day absence.
