Level Change Information 2023-24

Moving from Advanced to On-Level

If your student is struggling, a level change may be the best fit for them.

What courses can I move to On-Level?

English, Science, History, and Math

When can level changes occur?

At the 6 weeks and semester. The window for the 6 weeks level change is September 8th-18th.  The change will go into effect on Monday, September 25th.  Any request outside this window will not be granted.  If approved, the new schedule will start on Monday, September 25th.

The window the semester level change is December 1st-15th. The change will go into effect Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Students/parents will still have the first 5 days of the semester to request a change.

When are level changes approved?

Some degree of struggle is expected in an Advanced class, and grades may not be up to a student’s (or parents') personal standard at the beginning of the year. We intend for students to remain in the classes they chose during course selection, and to take advantage of the support we have in place for them (i.e. tutoring).

Occasionally, students exhaust all possible sources of help and no intervention strategy is successful, therefore a change to On-Level may be the best fit.

Moving to On-Level classes will need feedback from students, parents, and teachers. If approved, the student will reaming in the On-Level course for the rest of the school year.

Students must qualify based on criteria from the previous school year in order to be placed in Advanced Math. If you are new to the district and wish to qualify, please contact your counselor.

Preparing for next year, if you are in 7th grade, there is a summer boot camp that is open to all students (more info here). If you are in 8th grade, math classes are self-select in high school.

What steps need to be completed for a level change?

  1. Reach out to your teacher directly to create a plan for success.

  2. Attend tutoring regularly and complete assigned work on time.

  3. Parents must complete the following Google form to request a level change: Level Change Form

Teachers will provide observations and feedback to us as we consider each level change request. As we make decisions, we will notify students and parents about the schedule change.
