UIL Academic Competition

School Coordinator:  Mrs. Williams

Who:  Interested 2nd –6th Grade Students

What:  Various academic and fine arts teams coached by school staff members

When:  Teams begin forming in late October

Where:  Practices occur at Reed and competition will be held at Allen High School in January

UIL is a wonderful way for students to practice various academic skills and have an opportunity to compete against teams from other elementary campuses in Allen.  

 

Pride Council

Sponsor:  Mrs. Gosdin

Who:  5-6 Gr. Students chosen through an application process

What:  Leadership, development and community service

When:  Twice monthly after school

Start Date:   Late September (has already begun this year) 

Students may nominate themselves with parent permission. Pride Council representatives are decided by their previous homeroom teacher. These students lead various school service projects throughout the year.

  

Empowered Leaders

Sponsors:  Coach Battaia and Mrs. Stinchcomb

Who:  6th Grade girls  and boys chosen through an application process

What:  Leadership, development and community service

When:  Meet twice monthly after school

  

K-OWL News Team

Sponsor:  Mrs. Williams

Who:  6th Grade Students chosen through an application process

What:  Broadcast journalism team

When:  Mornings at 7:30

Start Date:  August

Where:  Reed library 

K-OWL is Reed’s morning news broadcast team.  This team provides important announcements to the student body each day.  The team consists of five to six 6th grade students.  All 5th graders can apply in May.

 

Yearbook Team 

Sponsor: Mrs. Williams
Who: Any 5th and 6th Grade Students
What: Production of school yearbook
When: Applications go out in spring of 4th grade

Safety Patrol

Sponsor: 6th Grade team
Who: 5th and 6th Grade Students selected through an application process
What: Assist students with special needs in PE and during morning arrival.
When: Helpers are assigned rotational duties throughout the school year.
