Two teams from the Allen STEAM Center and Plano ISD competed in the NASA Hunch Culinary Preliminary Challenge to create dishes for astronauts to use during space travel. The student teams were tasked with creating a “Savory Breakfast” that included a vegetable, met nutritional standards, and processed well for flight. The Allen team of Ian Roach and William Hayden Collette created a Chickpea-Chorizo Frittata and Plano made a “Meat Lovers” omelet. Although the scoring was very close, the Plano team’s dish was the winner. Both recipes will be sent to NASA for further review and comparisons from other contests. Judges included professional chefs and volunteers from Plano and Allen.

The Allen ISD CyberPatriot teams have once again demonstrated their exceptional cybersecurity prowess by clinching the third-place position in the Platinum, All-Service Division of the State round in the 2023-2024 CyberPatriot competition. The competition was fierce, featuring a challenging field of 727 teams in Texas. Six teams from Allen ISD, propelled by their outstanding performance in prior competitions, have earned the privilege to advance to the semifinals. David Ben-Yaakov, Allen ISD STEAM Career and Technical Education Lead and Cyberpatriot Sponsor, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I think computer science in general and cybersecurity, in particular, is a requirement for the future of these kids and our own future. So, I'm very happy with this team center that we're becoming a center of excellence in cyber and in computer science." The Computer Science/Cyber program at Allen ISD is distinctive, focusing on preparing students for future careers through rigorous, authentic, project-based learning. The program has seen significant growth, attracting students from various grade levels, including sophomores and freshmen. The engagement and success of students have contributed to the program's expansion, with over 110 students currently involved. The Allen ISD CyberPatriot teams are a testament to the success of the district's commitment to providing quality education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Through initiatives like the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) Club, led by Sgt. Maj. Bruce Cole, and the STEAM Center's cyber programs, Allen ISD continues to empower students to pursue their interests and passions in the ever-evolving field of cybersecurity. As these achievements unfold, Ben-Yaakov anticipates the continued growth of the program, stating, "As these students succeed, we'll get more teams that are also interested in competing and then just continue to raise the bar." 2023-2024 Season Participants • Aayan Ali • Rohit Bhupathiraju • Anish Bisht • Nathan Charles • Soohan Cho • Rayyan Choudhry • James Dungan • Nathan Faybysh • Jacob Fesseha • Blake Gateley • Reynard Gunawan • Benjamin Haines • Varun Hittuvalli • Onik Hoque • Richard Jang • Tiffany Jiang • Zohaib Khan • Advaiya Lad • Andrew Lin • Arav Lohe • Preetham Manapuri • Joel Mathew • Aidan Morris • Sam Ng • Volkan Ozcomert • Sai Paladugu • Jaivant Pantam • Siddanth Raja • Shushant Rana • Zong Rui • Srujan Sannidhi • Nikhil Saravana • Abel Semahegan • Arav Sharma • Maci Siratt • Saketh Sripada • Julian Thomas • Erick Torres • Herish Tripathi • Adithya Uppathil • Andrew Wang • Aidan Williams
