The Chargers mascot is an orb of energy representing the energy within each of our students.
The three spheres represent the mind, body and spirit.  In the first sphere, the mind, we will provide each student with a highly engaging, interactive learning environment for their educational success.  We will incorporate the latest technology, such as SMART Boards in every classroom, use best teaching practices and employ “highly qualified” teachers to serve our students.  We will teach the students all the academic skills needed to prepare them for a bright future.
The second sphere represents the body.  We are committed to providing physical activities, teaching awareness of nutrition and healthy eating habits, and provide for the general welfare of all our students.
The third sphere represents the Allen Spirit of doing your best, of caring for others, cooperation, responsibility, and commitment to your family and community.

History and Namesake

Our school is named after Beverly Cheatham, a caring nurse whose love for children touched the hearts of many. In 1983, Beverly Cheatham began her career at Allen ISD working part time as the school nurse at Reed Elementary. In 1985, she became a full-time employee, splitting her time between Reed Elementary and Allen High School. At one point, she covered three schools when Story Elementary was added to her responsibilities. From 1992 to 2003, Cheatham was the nurse coordinator for the district. In 1995, after hiring four nurses so each campus would have a full-time nurse, Cheatham became the full-time nurse at the high school.

From 1989 to 1993 she also worked every other Friday night in the newborn nursery and labor and delivery departments at what was then Plano General Hospital (now called Medical Center of Plano). During school breaks and summers she often worked at the hospital.

Mrs. Cheatham was a member of the district’s Health Advisory Committee for many years, which met to focus on how to help at-risk students and address the major health topics of the time – like HIV/AIDS education and pregnancy. Over the years, she has served on numerous committees and contributed to the health education of the district. She retired in May 2009.

Beverly Cheatham started college at age 26 at El Centro College and attended late-night classes in order to also care for her three children. She graduated with an associate’s degree in nursing and is a licensed Registered Nurse.

Beverly Cheatham and her husband John, have lived in the Allen since 1978. Their three children are all Allen High School alumni. Craig graduated in 1986, Amy in 1989 and Casey in 1994.

Our new Beverly Cheatham Elementary School will open in August 2010 south of HWY 121 near the intersection of Hopewell and Blanco Drives.
