Math Counts

Allen ISD middle school students at Ereckson and Curtis Middle Schools recently showcased their math skills at the MATHCOUNTS chapter competition. This annual contest challenges students through problem-solving and critical thinking.

Among 42 competing schools, Ereckson Middle School tied for first place with Rice Middle School, while Curtis Middle School placed fourth. Both teams advanced to the state competition on March 8.

Ereckson’s team includes Colin Wei, Derek Lin, Emma Zhu, and Ethan Ye. In addition to the team’s success, Ereckson’s Benjamin Dong also qualified for state in the individual round after placing 5th overall.

Curtis Middle School’s team of Caleb Kim, Yaseen Khan, Sidhaarth Adhisheshan, and Ayat Rahman earned the fourth-place team award at the competition, securing their spot at state.

MATHCOUNTS is a national program that fosters achievement through engaging, in-person competitions. The contest consists of multiple rounds, each designed to test distinct aspects of mathematical ability: the Target Round, the Sprint Round, the Team Round, and the Countdown Round.

Congratulations to these students and good luck at state!
