Allen ISD held its annual Spelling Bee with 11 contestants vying to be the best speller. Students from schools across the district participated in the event held in the STEAM Center’s Ellipse Theater. Preston Elementary’s Olivia Zhang captured first place with Tiana Paneri from Green coming in second. The other top 5 winners were Ethan Bek, third place from Kerr, Kishan Kannan, fourth place from Curtis Middle School, and Daniyal Farishta, fifth place from Boon. Lindsey’s Hansuza Kotte from Lindsey was the alternate. The district also will host the area Spelling Bee in February at Lowery Freshman Center.

Portillo’s is a brand synonymous with Chicago. In fact, they are kind of a big dill with their Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, cheese fries, fresh salads and famous chocolate cake. And their second location in Texas will open in Allen soon! On Monday, August 28th you can help the Portillo’s team train when they host a ‘sneak peek’ which also benefits the Foundation For Allen Schools! Grab a friend and enjoy a FREE Portillo’s meal from a limited menu. All they ask in return is that you consider bringing cash or a credit card to donate to their community partner (the Foundation) at the restaurant entrances. Portillo's will match the organization's donations of up to $5,000 from the event.
You must register in advance and select a time to arrive. Select and register for either the DINE IN option or the DRIVE THRU option. Guests without a reservation cannot be served.
