Dyslexia Services

Program Goals

  • Screen all kindergarten and first grade students for risk of dyslexia

  • Refer students in grades K-12 who may be at-risk for dyslexia and related disorders for a full initial and individual evaluation

  • Provide intervention that includes:

    • Phonemic awareness

    • Grapho-phonemic knowledge (phonics)

    • Language structure

    • Linguistics

    • Process and strategies for decoding, encoding, word recognition, fluency, and comprehension

  • Provide explicit, direct instruction that is systematic, sequential, and cumulative

  • Provide intensive, highly concentrated instruction that maximizes student engagement and uses specialized methods and materials

  • Provide multi-sensory instruction that incorporates the simultaneous use of two or more sensory pathways (auditory, visual, kinesthetic, tactile) during teacher presentations and student practice

  • Provide professional development to educators of students with dyslexia and related disorders

  • Provide to parents of students enrolled in the district information on dyslexia and related disorders
