Allen ISD honors staff throughout the school year who exemplify the three district goals of Culture of Excellence, Future Ready Skills, and Empowered Learning. For the month of October, these groups were honored:
- Christy Wright, Counselor, and Erin Royster, Librarian, at Boon Elementary
- Dr. Jason Sharp, Counselor, Mrs. Amanda Gibson, 6th grade teacher, and Mrs. Rebecca Banai, 4th grade teacher at Lindsey Elementary
- Jamie Qureshi, 5th grade teacher at Preston Elementary
- Allen High School Visual Arts Team: John Garrott, Sarah Arago, Megan Teel, Dee Jones, Caroline Hebbler, Kristy Thurman, Matthew Logan, and Korey Scott
Christy Wright and Erin Royster have collaborated to create a program called "Librance". They use Library and Guidance time to talk about online safety, character education, and friendships through collaborative conversations and the use of excellent books.
Dr. Jason Sharp, Amanda Gibson, and Rebecca Bania are a valuable part in the implementation of a Cabin/House system this year, where 24 students, along with Sharp, Gibson, and Bania’s guidance are involved in a variety of activities that align with the Leadership LoneStar characteristics of self-discipline, respect, responsibility, integrity, and service.
Jamie Qureshi, a 5th grade teacher at Preston Elementary, and the Visual Arts team at Allen High School are being recognized for Future Ready Skills.
Jamie Qureshi put together an empowered science read aloud kits. These kits rotate through our grade levels for students to learn more and explore more about careers in science. Each kit has three or four read-aloud books. Some are geared toward lower grades, and some are intended for higher grades. Science teachers receive them once a month for read-alouds in their classrooms.
"Our students have loved getting to explore these kits and they have done a great job of sparking their curiosity and allowing them to learn more about careers in the field of science," said Monica Lemons, principal at Preston Elementary. "I'm so proud of Jamie and her vision for these empowered science kits and the way that she is supporting our students with their future ready skills."
The Allen High School Visual Arts Team was also recognized for Future Ready Skills. The team members are John Garrott, Sarah Arago, Megan Teel, Dee Jones, Caroline Hebbler, Kristy Thurman, Matthew Logan, and Korey Scott.
"A lot of people think art is just drawing and really what they're doing is helping kids take an image that's in their head and get it into a viewable form by others," said Shelly Holmes, House Principal at AHS. "There's a whole lot of moving parts and so you have to have a really good imagination, but you also have to take risks and I think taking risks is an important future ready skill."
