Allen ISD is proud to announce the 2024 District Teachers of the Year:
Elementary Teacher of the Year
Solomon Boatfield, Preston Elementary
Secondary Teacher of the Year
Sarah Twedt, Ereckson Middle School
Each year, the Campus Teachers of the Year submit an application for review by a panel of judges. The judges then have the difficult task of choosing one elementary teacher (PK-6th grade) and one secondary teacher (7th-12th grade) to serve as the District Teachers of the Year. Following this special recognition, both Solomon and Sarah will advance to compete in the regional level for Texas Teacher of the Year.
Here are excerpts from both Solomon's and Sarah's applications:
Solomon wrote, “At the end of a unit, I have my students reflect on how they feel about their goals. It’s fulfilling to talk with my students about how they feel now about their goals and see how they move from feeling “okay” about their goal to possibly “great” or “mastered!” My hope is that the goal setting we do not only allows them to see their growth in math, but also that they can use goal setting as a measurement of growth in other areas of their everyday lives.”
Sarah said, “Teaching is in fact not a job at all, and students need to always be at the center of our focus. Teaching takes passion. Teaching takes love. Teaching takes patience. Teaching does not end at the bell, and teaching is not a profession we can compartmentalize. When students know and feel that we want to be present in the classroom and in their lives, that is when they take academic risks. Academic risks turn into confidence. Confidence turns into success.”
Congratulations to Solomon Boatfield and Sarah Twedt! They truly represent the culture of excellence that Allen ISD strives for every day.
