The Allen Eagles Sports Medicine student trainers are hard at work throughout the year, whether it's at football and volleyball in the fall or basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer in the spring. These students work closely with the teams to make sure they are treating and preventing injuries.
“I have a passion for helping athletes perform at their best and recover from injuries,” said Varsity Senior Trainer Caroline Hebert. “I love the idea of being able to make a real difference in people’s lives.”
Their names may not light up on scoreboards but without them, the team wouldn't be the same. There is no doubt that they are “The Team Behind the Team,” keeping athletes in top condition for the rigorous physical demands of their particular sports.
Students in this program aren’t required to have an interest in the healthcare field but it often sparks a passion for pursuing the profession.
The hands-on training with professionals makes this program unique. The students work closely with Licensed Athletic Trainers (LATs), Mike “Doc” Harrison, Chay Nersesian, and Chris Brock, as well as others. These LATs with more than 50 years of combined experience and the student trainers have a unique collaborative experience throughout the recovery process to heal athletes and get them back in action as safely and quickly as possible.
“I have made some of my favorite memories through Sports Medicine because of the girls I'm surrounded by,” said Junior Varsity Football Trainer Meg Rickens. “The team truly becomes your family.” This bond allows them to have fun while being professional.
They work long before the game begins and stay long after the crowds go home. The Allen Eagles Sports Medicine student trainers make an impact on and off the field in victory or defeat.
