Allen ISD - Where Eagles Soar

The Lowery Freshman Center recognized 78 students for Citizenship Awards at a special breakfast hosted by the school’s Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) on September 26. The students were nominated by their teachers for outstanding classroom work and decorum. LFC Principal Jill Stafford, along with staff and SROs, honored the students with certificates – and some freebies from local businesses. The Citizenship Awards are presented to deserving students each trimester during the school year. Congratulations to these outstanding students!

Allen High School Theatre students have been working hard to create props for their upcoming performances of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, set for Thursday, October 3, and Friday, October 4, in the Allen High School Performing Arts Center. Allen High School's Homecoming weekend was packed with sports action as the Eagles Volleyball team faced Prosper before the Allen-Plano football game. Despite a close 3-1 loss, the Eagles remain tied with Prosper for third in one of the state's toughest districts. Go Eagles!

Floral Design teacher Meredith Brill invited the Silver Eagles to make their own mini finger mums for HOCO with one of her classes. They enjoyed making the mums and garters and had a great time chatting with current Floral Design students.

Allen High School Theatre is excited to announce its Fall Play production of "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane." Based on Kate DiCamillo's acclaimed novel, this production promises a captivating experience for all ages. Showtimes are at 7 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 4 in the Allen High School PAC. Allen ISD's Director of Transportation Karol Day is the new Treasurer for the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation (TAPT). Karol was recently elected to the prestigious position by the TAPT, a professional organization with educational goals, formed to provide state-wide support for school district transportation departments. TAPT works to improve pupil transportation policies, standards, and equipment both locally and nationally, in addition to providing professional development and certifications for those employed in public school districts. Before her election as treasurer of TAPT, Karol served two years as Secretary for the organization from 2022 to 2024. Congratulations to Karol!

The Board recently recognized Macie Krenek and Carly Drake from the Allen Eagles Competitive Shooting Team! Macie earned medals at Nationals, placing third in Sporting Clays and fourth in Skeet. Carly won third in Trap at State & fourth in Skeet at Nationals. Congratulations!

Matthew McCoy, a senior at Allen High School, was recently selected as one of 28 cadets nationwide to participate in an eight-week Naval STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Flight Academy program. McCoy successfully earned his private pilot license, becoming the fourth Allen High School student to complete this program. McCoy serves as the Cadet Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (MCJROTC) at Allen High School. He is also a member of the Varsity Swim Team, the National Honor Society, and Scout Troop 624 in Allen, where he is an Eagle Scout. "I'd like to thank the Naval STEM Coordination Office for this opportunity and challenge,” said McCoy. “The Flight Academy was an experience to remember, and it has further invigorated my goal of flying for the Navy. I look forward to sharing this opportunity with many more qualified candidates." McCoy also acknowledged the support from Allen ISD, adding, "I would also like to thank Sgt. Maj. Cole and the Allen ISD Administration for their support of the MCJROTC Program at Allen High School. The addition of the Aviation Club and investment in the Flight Simulator gives AHS Navy Flight School candidates hands-on experience with aviation." Reading with the Eagles is back! This week members of the Eagles football team and cheer squad visited Anderson Early Childhood School and Vaughan Elementary School to read to the younger students! Great job and Go Eagles!

Toys for Texans, a nonprofit organization created by Allen High School students, is nearing the conclusion of its summer program after distributing more than 3,500 toys to children in hospitals across North Texas. As part of its mission, toy distribution stations were set up for patients at area hospitals including Medical City, Scottish Rite, Bryan’s House, Cook Children’s, Warren Center, Camp Summit, and SOS Richardson. The group’s primary directors, Piyush Chintalwar, Carson Sheffield, Mitul Gouni, Marc D’Jmoos, and Samir Alam, worked diligently to bring joy to special needs and hospitalized children throughout the region. As the organization’s students prepare to graduate in 2025, they have ensured the program’s future by passing responsibilities to the next group of freshman, sophomore, and junior AHS students.

Varish Karri, a sixth-grader at Preston Elementary, recently won the bronze medal in the under-13 category at the PAN AM Junior Championships in Mexico. Varish was the youngest player chosen for the category during a spring qualifying tournament. Training intensively for four hours every day after school, five days a week, Varish's hard work has certainly paid off. Congratulations!
